Vietnam's economy is both a developing planned economy and marketing economy. Vietnam's official name for their economy is known as the socialist-oriented market economy which uses both directive and indicative planning, which has led to Vietnam to experience a rapid growth in their economy.Vietnam is also a leading agriculture exporter and has been seen as an attractive foreign investment in Southeast Asia. Also due to the country's emphasis on knowledge and learning, education and literacy rates are quite high with many universities and institutions being constructed to provide a higher education.

Industries and Technology
Besides agriculture, there are many other industries that have begun to experience growth in Vietnam's economy. In fact the highest production growth rates were the results from the manufacture of paper products. The ocean fishing industry has also seen an increase from 385,000 tons in 1980 to 550,000 in 1985 and has been steadily increasing year after year. Vietnam has also begun to see an increase in foreign technology with companies such as Samsung, Intel, Nokia, and LG Electronics setting up bases in Vietnam.
