Power Distance
Power Distance deals with how all individuals in societies are not equal, and how these less powerful members in countries accept that power is distributed unequally. Comparing Vietnam to the US, Vietnam is a very hierarchical society and subordinates have no problem being told what to do by their superiors and challenging leadership is frowned upon.
Individualism
This dimension deals with how members in societies defined self image into "I"s (individualist societies) or "We"s (collective societies). Vietnam's low score of only 20 is a heavily collective society, where loyalty is emphasized and how ones actions affect the group's image.
Masculinity
A high score in masculinity indicates that the society is driven by competition and success with success being determined by being the "best" in the field. A low score is considered a feminine society which generally means that the society values caring for others and quality of life. With a score of 40 Vietnam is considered a feminine society where conflicts are resolved by negotiation, flexibility and free-time are favored, and decision making is achieved through involvement.
Uncertainty Avoidance
This refers to how a specific society deals with the uncertainty of the future and unknown situations and have created beliefs and systems to avoid the unknown. Vietnam's low score of 30 means that the society is relatively relaxed about facing the unknown, believing that there should be no more rules than necessary. Work schedules are flexible and hard work is undertaken when necessary but it never comes naturally.
Long Term Orientation
This refers to how a society keeps it's links with it's past and history and dealing with the challenges of the present and future. Low scores are normative societies meaning that they prefer to to preserve their long traditions and change is slow and treated with suspicion. High scores such as Vietnam's 57 make it a pragmatic society which encourages change and are able to adapt traditions to prepare for the future.
Indulgence
Indulgence is the dimension that is defined of how people in society are able to control their natural human desires and impulses. High scores of indulgence have relatively weak control of this and are considered a society of indulgence, and low scores are societies who have high restraint to these human instincts. With a score of 35 Vietnam is a society of restraint and do not put much of an emphasis on leisure time and are able to control their desires. Societies of restraint also feel that their actions are restrained by social norms and that indulging themselves in wrong.
